Services

Electrical work for homes and landlords

Everything here is domestic work: houses, flats and rented homes across Tyneside. Each service shows the kind of job we do most often.

Fuse box (consumer unit) upgrades

Older fuse boards often have no RCD protection: the safety switch that cuts the power in a split second if something goes wrong. A modern consumer unit protects people as well as wiring.

Typical jobs

  • Replacing a wooden-backed fuse board with rewireable fuses
  • Upgrading the consumer unit before a kitchen or bathroom refit
  • Adding surge protection when the board is replaced

What you get: an Electrical Installation Certificate, and the work notified to Building Control.

Electrical safety checks (EICR)

An Electrical Installation Condition Report checks the condition of the wiring you already have. Landlords in England need one at least every five years, and buyers often ask for one before they move in.

Typical jobs

  • Landlord reports before a new tenancy or renewal
  • Checks for home buyers before they commit
  • Checking an older house before renovation work starts

What you get: a written report with any problems explained in plain English, and a separate quote for any repairs. You're free to use anyone for that work.

Full and partial rewires

If your wiring is old, damaged or simply not enough for modern life, a rewire puts it right. We plan the work room by room and agree the order with you first.

Typical jobs

  • Full rewire of a two-bed Tyneside flat
  • Partial rewire of a kitchen and extension
  • Replacing old rubber or fabric-covered cable found during a safety check

What you get: a plan before we start, a tidy site at the end of each day, and a certificate when it's finished.

EV charger installation

A home charge point is faster and safer than an extension lead through the window. We check your supply first, then fit the charger where it suits your parking.

Typical jobs

  • Wall-mounted charger on the side of the house
  • Charger on a post at the end of a driveway
  • Checking the main fuse and supply before fitting

What you get: the charger set up and tested, the network operator notified, and a certificate for the new circuit.

Lighting, inside and out

Good lighting changes how a room feels. We fit, move and upgrade lights indoors and out.

Typical jobs

  • LED downlights and under-cupboard lights in a kitchen
  • Outside wall lights and low lights along a garden path
  • Replacing old fittings and adding dimmer switches

What you get: neat fittings, switches where you want them, and any holes made good.

Sockets, outdoor power and fault finding

If the power keeps tripping, a socket has stopped working or you just need more sockets, we'll find the cause and fix it properly.

Typical jobs

  • Tracing a fault that keeps tripping the RCD
  • Adding double sockets with USB in a home office
  • A weatherproof outdoor socket for the garden

What you get: a clear explanation of what was wrong and what we did about it.

Smoke and heat alarms

Mains-powered, interlinked alarms mean that if one goes off, they all go off, so you hear it wherever you are in the house.

Typical jobs

  • Interlinked smoke alarms on each floor and a heat alarm in the kitchen
  • Replacing old alarms that have reached the end of their life

What you get: alarms tested in front of you, and a quick guide to looking after them.

Questions

Common questions

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Quotes are free and come in writing, so you can compare them with others.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. Any job that needs certifying gets the right certificate, emailed to you once the work has been tested.

Do you work for landlords and letting agents?

Yes. We can arrange access with tenants and send reports to you and your agent.

Can you come today?

Sometimes. Call us and we'll tell you honestly how soon we can get to you. If we can't help in time, we'll say so.

Do you clean up afterwards?

Always. Dust sheets go down before we start, and we take away old fittings and cable.

Need an electrician?

Tell us what you need and we'll come back to you with a clear, written quote.
